“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” – Mother Theresa
Every Tuesday for about a year now, I send a few Shema Cuffs to some sisters (and brothers!) who need them…and every Tuesday, there is ALWAYS someone who needs them. There is always someone who needs to be reminded that they are loved, that God is with them through this difficult time, and that they are being carried by the prayers of others.
I know there are many things that hurting people need: money, time, resources, friends. Sending a small slice of faith and inspiration is a very little act. And that’s the point. It’s a simple, tangible way to bring light and hold space for someone in a dark place. Isn’t that what we’re here for?
Often, we hear one another’s sad stories and wonder how WE can help when SO MUCH is needed. Anything we do feels small and insufficient. We also feel awkward and unsure of HOW to help – we are just one person, usually one crazy-busy, overwhelmed, stressed-out person. Slowly, we sink back into our hectic lives and forget to do anything at all. I did this…all. the. time. So about a year ago, I decided to change that, one super-loving small thing at a time.
I’m sending some cuff love to some very special people today: a 24-year-old newlywed rock-climber from Colorado who was recently paralyzed in a car accident; a single dad from Ohio struggling with sobriety; and a few very special educators and parents in Virginia who are trying to lift their children and students up out of extreme poverty.
If there is someone who is suffering or lonely or needs a little extra love in your life, I hope you’lI act in some small way to bring love and light to them. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a grand gesture.
Here comes the REQUEST: If you know a GROUP of people who need to be lifted up, please email me at amy(AT)mindfullymadestudios(DOT)com or message me through Facebook.
Tell me who they are and why they need a little light. My light-bringing crew and I will review the requests and send out a package of inspiring cuffs to a new group each Tuesday and we’ll tell you about it here. We already get some requests, but I would like to help more broadly, to see how far we can spread this love of ours and to help heal hurts together…one small thing at a time.
I look forward to hearing from YOU!
You are the best. LOVE this. And somehow I knew you would have the school from Momastery on your list before I even saw it. So proud of calling you my friend. I’ve been thinking about a little giving back plan, you are spurring me on to make it happen. xo
Great ideas and creations here, Amy. But, then again, this is not a surprise. Hope you and your family are well. ~Paul
